The course will clearly define implicit bias and will apply that definition and its consequences. It examines the negative impact that different forms of implicit bias have on clinical outcomes with particular emphasis on the relationship between implicit bias and racism as experienced or expressed by patients, and/or as demonstrated within the data of clinical outcomes. Interactive case studies will encourage development of clear understanding and awareness of these issues, trust-building communication strategies designed to improve outcomes, and refers to standardization tools and self-audit strategies.
