Risk and Safety Issues in Inpatient Procedural Medicine XVII discusses the impact of “surgical flow disruptions” (SFDs)—deviations that occur during the expected sequence of surgical tasks and often contribute to errors and adverse patient events. SFDs are particularly common during robotic-assisted surgical (RAS) procedures. This course reviews the types of SFDs commonly seen with RAS, explores interventions to decrease their incidence, and examines the necessity of using a team approach when responding to surgical emergencies that occur during RAS procedures.
