BALTIMORE, MD—Med-IQ, an award-winning, ACCME-accredited provider of continuing medical education (CME), is pleased to announce that two current collaborations were recognized with Best in Class Outcomes awards by the Alliance for Continuing Education in the Health Professions (ACEhp). This award is given to high-quality outcome presentations that effectively report the measured impact of educational initiatives that are successfully addressing gaps and resulting in improvements in patient care or in the knowledge, competency, performance, or behavior of healthcare providers.
The winning projects will be displayed as poster presentations at the Annual Alliance Industry Summit (AIS), May 9 to 11, in Philadelphia, PA.
One of the winning presentations, Strategies for Success as a Patient-Centered Medical Home, is a collaboration between Med-IQ, the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), and ArcheMedX, supported by educational grants from AbbVie, Allergan, Inc., Amgen, Astellas Pharma US, Inc., AstraZeneca, Gilead Sciences, Inc., Lilly, Sanofi, Sanofi US and Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, and Takeda Pharmaceuticals International, Inc., U.S. Region. This educational initiative provides a comprehensive portfolio of continuing education offerings to support quality improvement (QI) efforts of clinicians who practice within the NCQA’s patient-centered medical home (PCMH). Strategies for Success includes clinical content for 6 disease states that were selected based on data from the NCQA’s 2014 National Survey of Clinicians Practicing Within a PCMH. Although the ultimate goal of this initiative is to support the unique needs of the care teams at recognized PCMH practices, collaborators are investigating correlations between interventional components within this initiative and immediate and sustained gains in knowledge and competence, as well as whether QI behaviors and PCMH renewals are affected by participation.
The other winning project, Are You Prepared for PrEP?, is a collaboration with Med-IQ, HealthHIV, Pozitively Healthy, and the National Coalition for LGBT Health, supported by an educational grant from Gilead Sciences, Inc, that is focused on engaging a broad base of stakeholders in conversations about pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP)—a novel approach to preventing the transmission of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Based on the findings of recent clinical trials and demonstration projects in which the consistent use of PrEP was shown to be more than 90% effective at preventing the sexual transmission of HIV, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention now endorse its use. However, widespread adoption of this strategy outside of select urban centers has been slow for a variety of reasons. This comprehensive initiative is designed to address educational gaps and logistical barriers to the implementation of PrEP for HIV prevention by engaging primary care clinicians, potential consumers of PrEP, AIDS service organization staff, and others in conversations about the safety and efficacy of this strategy, who is an appropriate candidate for PrEP, and other practical aspects to consider when implementing PrEP as part of HIV prevention efforts. Collaborators are investigating the effect of this multi-format and sequenced initiative on the awareness and implementation of PrEP.
“We’re proud of our collaborations and the resources they provide to move beyond standard outcomes. It’s an honor that the Alliance has recognized our continual pursuit of high-quality data to assess our educational interventions” said Jason J. Olivieri, MPH, Director of Outcomes at Med-IQ.
With the addition of these awards, Med-IQ has now received a total of 24 awards from the ACEhp, making Med-IQ one of the most award-winning accredited CME providers in the nation.
