Prescribing and medication management errors persist in inpatient and outpatient settings, despite the widespread adoption of e-prescribing and EHRs. While e-prescribing technology has eliminated some problems, it has introduced many others. This course highlights the benefits and risks of e-prescribing, emphasizes the importance of checking all fields of e-prescription or medication orders, reviews special considerations for controlled substances, and provides effective medico-legal risk mitigation strategies.
